That Feeling, The Berklee City Music Anthem

For the 30th anniversary of the Berklee City Music program, a group of City Music faculty, ambassadors, and students came together to create an anthem and music video celebrating the spirit behind City Music.

“That Feeling,” an ode to following your heart, working hard, and persevering, not only expresses the role that music can play in the lives of people, but also offers a window into the world of songwriting, anthems, collaboration, music production, and careers in the music industry. Through behind-the-scenes interviews with the writers, performers, and producers, and artifacts collected along the way, students have the unique opportunity to follow the process from the planning stage, creation, editing, and final production. In these units, students will use these interviews and artifacts to learn about the process of developing and producing an anthem, and use what they learn to begin to develop their own unique works individually and in collaboration with others.

Preview Lesson 1: What is an Anthem?
In this lesson, students will listen to Berklee City Music's “That Feeling” anthem, watch interviews with creators of “That Feeling” discussing how they view anthems, listen to a variety of other anthems and popular songs, and create their own definition of what an anthem is.
Preview Lesson 2: Production on "That Feeling"
In this lesson, students will look for producer choices in making "That Feeling", and begin thinking like a producer in planning an imaginary project.

"That Feeling" serves as the Berklee City Music program's inaugural anthem and introduction to the Berklee City Music Ambassador initiative and campaign, featuring Grammy-Award-winning artists and world-renowned creatives who serve as mentors and advocates for our next generation of musicians, creatives, thought-leaders, and trailblazers for Berklee City Music students and beyond.

"That Feeling" is an ode to harnessing the creative power that lives inside all of us; the universal birthright to access, grow, and flourish in our "creative happy place", no matter where we are in our artistic journeys.
